This is the official Pike language web site. Pick up the (latest stable) Pike 7.6 source distribution (15 MB), or browse through the docs. If you are new to Pike, check out our about section and the tutorial. An archive of all prior releases is also available, including pre-built binaries contributed for several platforms.


what is pike?
Pike is a dynamic programming language with a syntax similar to Java and C. It is simple to learn, does not require long compilation passes and has powerful built-in data types allowing simple and really fast data manipulation.

Pike is released under the GNU GPL, GNU LGPL and MPL; this means that you can fetch it and use it for almost any purpose you please.

2008, June 18: Pike 7.8 Release Sprint
In order to wrap up the work and squash the remaining blocker bugs to get Pike 7.8 ready for a release, the Pike developers are planning to get together in Linköping on the last weekend of june 2008. Read more

2007, October 10: Pike Conference 2007 to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark
Registration is now open for this year's conference, to be held November 14th through the 16th in Copenhagen Denmark. Read more

2007, July 16: New Pike book available
Pike: An Introduction, the definitive tutorial for the Pike programming language is now available for purchase. Read more

2007, April 25: Pike 7.6.112 released.
A new official version of Pike 7.6 has been released. Read the release notes and download the distribution. (A historic event, in that a win32 installer is released at the same time as the source release.)

2006, August 29: Pike Conference 2006
Registration is now open for the 2006 Pike Conference. This year's event will be held in Riga, Latvia, from the 18th through the 22th of October. See the Conference website for more details. Read more

2006, June 20: Opera Mini uses Pike
The 2.0 release of Opera Mini includes a "third parties" page that names Pike as one of the components. At a technical presentation at Linköping University earlier this year it was revealed that the Opera Mini server software is written in Pike.
